Beethoven's first composition for mixed choir and strings - on an anonymous text - is an intimate, collected and gentle, very expressive piece which is aimed at those who suffer to participate fraternally in their pain.
Symphony No. 7 in A major op. 92, composed between 1811 and 1812, debuted in Vienna on 8 December 1813 conducted by the same author in a musical evening for the benefit of the Austrian soldiers returning from the battle of Hanau. The composition was favorably received by the Viennese who especially liked the second movement, the Allegretto, which was even encored. Considered at the time, by the critics of the time, to be extravagant in some respects and bordering on excess, it was instead appreciated by Richard Wagner, who deserves the credit of immediately intuiting its true essence, who defined it as «the apotheosis of dance ». In this Symphony the dialectic between light and shadow is underlined and blossoms in its finale when the drama between evil and good has been resolved in favor of the good and positivity of life.
