Opening the concert on both dates will be a series of excerpts from two of Leonard Bernstein's most famous compositions: the symphonic dances and the piece “I feel pretty” - taken from “West Side Story” - followed by the Overture and “Glitter and be gay,” taken from “Candide.” In the performance of the song “I feel pretty” featured in addition to Moreno are Letizia Bertoldi, soprano; Aloisia De Nardis, soprano; and mezzo-soprano Janetka Hosco.
Closing the concerts is one of Antonín Dvořák's most celebrated compositions, Symphony No. 9 in E minor op. 95, known as “From the New World”: written between the winter of 1892 and May of the following year, it was composed by the Bohemian musician after his move to New York (hence the epithet From the New World); in fact, the local culture stimulated and enriched the musician, who proposed a symphony with a classical European matrix but decidedly influenced by native American music: moreover, not wanting his work to be identified as an American symphony, the title “From the New World” was affixed by the composer to the last one.
