The life of the Bohemians is “a merry and terrible life”. In a cold and wintry Paris, four young artists struggle to survive with little money, trying to find something to eat and enjoying glimpses of the high life at the Café Momus. The interweaving of two love stories, one between Marcello and Musetta and the other between Rodolfo and Mimi, is an opportunity to examine the dark side of love. The quarrels between lovers and reciprocal jealousy which vanish with the manifestation of something greater: death.
