The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino comes back to Bucarest for the "George Enescu Festival 2023".
On the podium Maestro Zubin Mehta, together with the Maggio Choir and Orchestra, who will conduct on two consecutive days: an opera, in a concert form, on August 28th in the Palatului Hall, and a symphonic concert on August 29th in the Grand Palace Hall.
The first evening is dedicated to the composer Giuseppe Verdi with the performance of his penultimate masterpiece: Otello.
After the success of Aida, Verdi had decided to retire from the stage, but the meeting with Arrigo Boito and the love of both for Shakespeare, brought the master from Busseto back on track. The first effort of the fortunate partnership is precisely Otello, which triumphantly debuts at the Scala in Milan on 5 February 1887. At 74 years old, Verdi demonstrates an astonishing capacity for renewal, covering Boito's verses in an unexpected and original way and giving life to a mobile and continuous melodic flow. With one eye on Wagner and one on the Italian theatrical tradition, Verdi thus marks the point of arrival of his exceptional creative parable.
The artists who will perform in Bucarest are: Fabio Sartori in the part of the protagonist, Otello; Luca Salsi as Jago; Anastasia Bartoli as Desdemona; Joseph Dahdah as Cassio, Adriano Gramigni as Ludovico and Francesco Pittari as Roderigo. The cast ends with two young artists from the Academy: Eduardo Martínez (Montano) and Matteo Mancini (A Herald).
