Teatro del Maggio responds to the great demand from the audience and sets another performance in the “Caravaggio” ballet

The show will be added to the scheduled performances of May 9th and 10th at 8pm and the one of May 11th at 3.30pm

Florence, 26 February 2025 -  The great demand from the audience and the quick running out of seats for the three performances already scheduled and announced as part of the 87th edition of the Maggio Festival of the ballet "Caravaggio" with Roberto Bolle, by Mauro Bigonzetti, has found a response from the Theatre that, thanks to the availability of the famous dancer, can announce a fourth performance that is added to the three already on the bill. The ‘extra’ show will be staged on Saturday, May 10th, 2025 at 3pm , on the stage of the Maggio Main Hall. Tickets for this performance will be on sale from Thursday, February 27th, 2025.

The ballet "Caravaggio" expected as a special event of the Maggio Festival, comes for the first time in Italy after the debut in 2008 in Germany and after Florence will be staged in Milan, at the Teatro Arcimboldi. Promoter of the project and protagonist performer of Caravaggio is the ‘Étoile scaligera’ Roberto Bolle, ambassador of Italian culture in the world and spokesperson for the spread of ballet as an accessible art form dedicated to all. Next to him, some of the best international solo dancers, along with a corps de ballet created for the occasion through audition, which will include about 30 young freelance dancers.  A project, therefore, all Italian - created in 2008 for the Staatsballett Berlin directed by Vladimir Malakhov - thought by Mauro Bigonzetti, acclaimed choreographer of the contemporary panorama, on music of the composer and conductor Bruno Moretti, who gave a new symphonic orchestration to pieces by Claudio Monteverdi taken from Orfeo – from Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, from Incoronazione di Poppea and from the “Settimo libro dei madrigali”. 

“Caravaggio”, choreography by Mauro Bigonzetti, is a production in collaboration between the Fondazione Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and ARTEDANZA SRL, with the support of the Ministero della Cultura and the contribution of Intesa Sanpaolo.
