On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March 2024, in the Ballroom of the Teatro del Maggio, the masterclasses and preselections.

A collaboration between the Rudolf Noureev Foundation, the Amintore Galli Theater of Rimini and the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Florence, January 26th, 2024 - Saturday and Sunday, March 16th - 17th 2024, in the Ballroom of the Teatro del Maggio the Masterclasses and preselections will be held in person to access the fifth edition of the Rudolf Noureev Competition - organized by the ARTFEST Cultural Association - which will take place at the Amintore Galli Theater in Rimini from 16 to 21 July 2024.

The event is aimed at male and female dancers, from 14 years old to young professionals, who will be judged by an exceptional jury composed of Elisabeth Platel (Étoile and Director of the École de Danse de l'Opéra National de Paris) and by Daniel Agésilas (Opéra National de Paris, Étoile Ballet Joseph Russillo), former Director of the Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique et Danse de Paris, President of the Jury of the Rudolf Noureev Competition.

The program includes two complete two-hour lessons (barrere and centre) with Professor Elisa Scala of the Accademia Teatro Alla Scala Dance School in Milan, respectively on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, after which the jurors will make a first selection.

The pre-selected candidates will be asked to perform their free variation of the classic after which the names of those who will be admitted to the fifth edition of the Rudolf Noureev Competition will be revealed.

In the month of July, for six days, at the Galli Theater in Rimini, the selected dancers will have the opportunity to perfect their knowledge of Noureev's choreographies with Étoiles such as Monique Loudières, Elisabeth Maurin and Wilfried Romoli, as well as important pedagogists, to win awards of category and internships in large schools or international companies and, finally, the opportunity to perform in the final show.

“The choice to make the pre-selections in Florence is certainly dictated by the desire to facilitate access to this opportunity also in other regions, but also by my ancient professional bond with this city which welcomed with great enthusiasm the extraordinary event of the return of Martha Graham in Europe in the 1980s. Obviously, dancers from any region and nationality will be able to register, as long as they respect the requirements illustrated in the regulations", says Maria Perchiazzi Guaraldi, coordinator and co-founder of the Rudolf Noureev competition.

“Rimini creates an axis with Florence in the name of great dance, thanks to the extraordinary work of the Artfest cultural association and Maria Perchiazzi Guaraldi – is the comment of Laura Fontana, head of the management of the Theaters of the Municipality of Rimini – This ability to involve in the Competition also from outside the city not only testifies to the value of an international level event, but at the same time represents an opportunity for growth for our Theater and for our city, which can present itself as a hub of vibrant cultural and artistic production, projected to the future and to the new generations, consistently with the path of candidacy for Italian capital of culture that we have undertaken".

The Rudolf Noureev Competition is organized by the ARTFEST Cultural Association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Rimini and with the support and patronage of the Noureev Foundation.
