Florence, October 8th, 2024 – On Thursday, October 10th 2024 at 8pm - in the Zubin Mehta Hall - Maestro Daniele Gatti returns to the podium for a Choral symphonic concert: on the program, Ein deutsches Requiem for soloists, choir and orchestra op. 45 by Johannes Brahms. Soloists: Rosalia Cid (soprano) and Liviu Holender (baritone).
The master of the Coro del Maggio is Lorenzo Fratini.
Perhaps born from the need to express in music the loss of his mother in February 1865, the composition is based on a text with passages from the Old and New Testaments that were selected and assembled by Brahms himself in a completely personal way. It was performed for the first time, in three movements, in December 1867, but only in April of the following year, when it was performed complete with its six movements, did it really receive great public success, marking a decisive turning point in the career of the German composer.
Maestro Daniele Gatti returns to the Maggio after the great success achieved in the 86th edition of the Maggio Musicale Festival: three symphonic choral concerts and the direction of the opera Tosca, directed by Massimo Popolizio. At the moment, in addition to his commitments on the podium of the Zubin Mehta Hall for the Brahms cycle, he is also busy with rehearsals for the new production of Madama Butterfly that will be staged from 24 October to 2 November in the Main Hall.
The other two shows dedicated to Johannes Brahms will feature the complete cycle of symphonies: on Thursday, October 17th at 8 pm, when he will perform Symphonies No. 3 in F major op. 90 and No. 1 in C minor op. 68; and on Saturday, October 26th 2024, when he will perform Symphonies No. 2 in D major op. 73 and No. 4 in E minor op. 98.
The soloists for Ein deutsches Requiem are soprano Rosalia Cid, a former talent of the Accademia del Maggio, who has sung in many Maggio productions, including Rigoletto (La contessa di Ceprano, February 2021), Le nozze di Figaro (Barbarina; May 2022), La finta semplice (Ninetta; January 2023) and Falstaff (Nannetta; June 2023). Baritone Liviu Holender, on the other hand, sang at the Maggio as Falke in Die Fledermaus (January 2022) and as Harlequin in a new production of Ariadne auf Naxos (June 2022).
